These images were taken at the University of Pittsburgh. Firstly the ‘Cathedral of Learning’ with its deeply religious atmosphere of the ‘nave’ and the curious selection of international teaching rooms, very old fashioned, on purpose but what is the pedagogic design reasoning behind it? http://www.nationalityrooms.pitt.edu/about/cathedral-learning
This is one of the two new large lecture theatres, with seats that swivel and a clever touch of light for wheelchair users in the front row.
We did question about the viewing angles and height restriction of the large whiteboard.
This active learning classroom had wall to wall whiteboards, tall chairs and a few bar height tables, clearly encouraging students to be physically active.
Another two examples of the rather dated conservative decor and colour scheme for furniture.
