As part of the CCUMC annual conference in Pittsburgh, delegates were invited to a self guided tour of two of the host institutions, Duquesne and Pittsburgh Universities.

The Consortium of College and University Media Centers is a professional association for North America, CCUMC website similar to SCHOMS in the UK SCHOMS website and AETM in Australasia. AETM website.

These images were taken at the University of Pittsburgh. Firstly the ‘Cathedral of Learning’ with its deeply religious atmosphere of the ‘nave’ and the curious selection of international teaching rooms, very old fashioned, on purpose but what is the pedagogic design reasoning behind it? http://www.nationalityrooms.pitt.edu/about/cathedral-learning

This is one of the two new large lecture theatres, with seats that swivel and a clever touch of light for wheelchair users in the front row.IMG_1850 IMG_1851

We did question about the viewing angles and height restriction of the large whiteboard.IMG_1854_2

This active learning classroom had wall to wall whiteboards, tall chairs and a few bar height tables, clearly encouraging students to be physically active.
