As part of the CCUMC annual conference in Pittsburgh, delegates were invited to a self guided tour of two of the host institutions, Duquesne and Pittsburgh Universities.
These images were taken at the University of Pittsburgh. Firstly the ‘Cathedral of Learning’ with its deeply religious atmosphere of the ‘nave’ and the curious selection of international teaching rooms, very old fashioned, on purpose but what is the pedagogic design reasoning behind it? http://www.nationalityrooms.pitt.edu/about/cathedral-learning
This active learning classroom had wall to wall whiteboards, tall chairs and a few bar height tables, clearly encouraging students to be physically active.
Another two examples of the rather dated conservative decor and colour scheme for furniture.
