University of Hull

This was the venue for the SCHOMS conference in May 2012, University House. With thanks to Mr Darcy O’Bree for the tour.

A rare splash of colour and design element in a new build at Hull with rather ubiquitous lecture rooms leading off this main corridor.

There were some ‘in-between spaces’ for students to use informally if uncomfortably, the seats are paving slabs!

Or changing room style seats for those waiting for lectures.

Sadly so many universities opt for the corporate approach to fit outs which doesn’t resemble a student-centred, dynamic place of learning.

This lecture theatre has historic character, designed for passive transmissive learning with not much scope for interaction.

At the basement level of this building I found a small gallery exhibition and a small cafe, altogether more inviting judging by the number of people present.
