St. James the Great Primary School, Kent

At the end of July 2010 I visited a new primary school in East Malling, Kent, which opened last month for infants and juniors. The tour was courtesy of Sylvia Crockett, the Head Teacher whose inspiring vision for the new build has been such a success. School web site

The main feature of the school is the Learning Street, which is the name give to the wide central space that is more than a corridor. It houses different zones that are used as a teaching space, library, IT area, Smart Table and two meeting spaces.

There is a very interesting use of colour that has been applied to the classrooms that range from bright colours for the infants to more subtle colours for the older kids’ rooms.
